The Cross of Christ

The Cross is The Instrument of Death

Jesus Volunteered to go to The Cross

It is the place of Satan's defeat of Jesus!

He identified himself with the sin and suffering of humanity.

1. He suffered…Psalm 88:3, 7, 15

2. He was made sick…Isaiah 53:3-5; 52:14 - Spiritual

  • He was made physically sick.
  • His spirit was marred by sin.

All the sin of humanity

Both words - Visage and Form - speak of the spirit

3. He was made a curse…Galatians 3:13

4. He was made sin…2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus Was Made Sin When he Took Our Sin

He became one with our dead spirit…Romans 6:6

He was our substitute.

1. He took our sin upon himself…1 Peter 2:24

  • He had to surrender his righteousness
  • But not to us

    • He was dead with our death!

Jesus was not alone on the cross

    1. Galatians 2:20

    2. We were (our dead, human spirits) nailed to the cross with him!

    3. Our sin killed Jesus

    4. Jesus became sin (the seed of death) so when death killed him, it killed itself!

Jesus Went to Hell

We were buried with him; we went to Hell with him.

Jesus paid sin's penalty in Hell.

    • We were there with him; we paid the penalty in him!

Jesus Died Because he Identified Himself With Our Sin

He took our sin upon himself

      • We were crucified with him,  died with him; were buried with him, suffered with him!

We Are Saved Because We Identify With His Righteousness

When Jesus died, he took our old nature unto himself

      He became as we were

      We were in him

When he was raised to life, we were still in him; we were also raised to new life.  Romans 6:5-6

We take on the new nature of his life, just as he took on our old nature of death.

      We were one in death

      1. We shared our death; therefore, we share his life.

      • We were justified with him.
      • We were made alive with him.
      • We were raised together with him.
      • We were conquerors of Satan with him.

We must identify with Jesus' victory to receive salvation!

You Cannot Avoid The Cross

You were on it whether you like it or not!

      1. Refusing to identify with the victory that Jesus won for you, his new life, his righteousness...means that you still identify with death, defeat, and spiritual desolation!
