Standing on The Word

What it is Not

Standing on God’s word is not:

  • Spiritual warfare
  • The accumulation of “a bunch of good scriptures”
  • Simply standing still and doing nothing
  • God waiting to see what you are going to do

Mistaken Application

It is not unusual to see someone run to Ephesians 6:11-14 to commence standing on God’s word. But these verses in Ephesians are speaking of spiritual warfare, not standing on God’s word.

1. Put on all of God’s armor.

2. Stand against the wiles of the devil.

3. Our fight is against spiritualities.

4. Once you have prepared yourself by employing all of the armor God has made available, you are ready to make your stand against the wiles of the devil.

A Useless Collection

The accumulation of numerous scriptures may edify the scripture collector, but such  accumulation is just a variation of 2 Timothy 3:7.

Even though the scriptures are hand-picked for a particular need or situation, that biblical trove will never get us to stand on God’s word.

Laziness by Any Other Name

Standing idly by hoping God will bail us out of our present situation is not standing on God’s word. According to Mark 16:20, the Lord desires to work with us, not instead of us.

God is Not a Spectator

We should avoid thinking that God is merely sitting on his throne waiting to see what method we will use to take ourselves to victory.

All victory comes from God, and our methods are supposed to be his.

Really Standing on God’s Word

Genuinely standing on God’s word is a joint effort between God and man where both are equally involved.

A Needed Foundation

If you are going to stand on anything you need to make certain that you will be standing upon a solid foundation…NOTHING TEMPORARY WILL DO!

Check Your Armor Here

Standing on God’s word requires no armor. Therefore, you need not run to Ephesians 6:11-17. What you really need is more Exodus 14:13.

Samuel Shows us The Premise

Standing on the word comes down to one thing and one thing only—believing God will perform his word.

Saul

Samuel, as God’s prophet, was about to anoint Saul king over Israel.

  • 1 Samuel 9:27-10:7

The People

Samuel proceeds to elucidate some of Israel’s history for the people reminding them that God was their king, but they wanted another (Saul).

  • 1 Samuel 12:16-25

Saul is telling the people that God has spoken to them, now they need to believe what God has said and stand on that in confidence.

Other Scriptures

Job 37:14

Romans 14:4

1 Corinthians 15:1

2 Corinthians 1:24

Philippians 1:27

Colossians 4:12

In all of these scriptures we see the underlying idea of God’s word creating faith in us; it is upon this faith in God’s word we are to make our stand.
