The High Calling of God

Definition:

Calling is the invitation to receive both the blessings and the responsibilities of salvation provided by Christ.

We Have Not Yet Arrived

Philippians 3:10-14

Being born again is not arriving.

  • We are still being perfected.

Perfection is in 3 Stages

Perfection is not instantaneous; it is a progression.

1. Positional Perfection

  • Already possessed by believers in Christ.

Hebrews 10:14

2. Relative Perfection (maturity)

  • Maturity is achieved progressively.

2 Corinthians 7:1

3. Ultimate Perfection (spirit, soul, and body)

  • Realized at the resurrection of the dead.

Paul said he had not arrived at this perfection.

Forgetting The Things Behind

Many Things Are Behind Us

Sin, wickedness, unbelief

  • Dwelling on problems and defeats.

We are to forget these things.

Faith, grace, victory

  • Dwelling on blessings and victories.

We are to forget these too.

We are not to STAY anywhere except in Christ.

People Like to Think They Have Arrived

They have a victory or grow a little…

  • They call it the end of the line!

The Prize of The High Calling

A Prize Is Won Through Effort

Our prize is the high calling of God.

  • High is a relative term.

Maturity.

Ephesians 4:1

Christians should attune themselves to the gospel BY WHICH they are called, and the glory TO WHICH they are called.

  • Both are their calling.

We are called to God’s kingdom and glory.

  • We must walk as becomes the heirs of these things.

2 Peter 1:10

We must determine for ourselves that we are walking in the calling of God (salvation and glory).

Your Abilities

Parable of The Talents

Matthew 25:14

Walking Worthy of God

Colossians 1:9-18

Not Mere Men

Since our conversion we are no longer like ordinary men and women of the world.

For your are still (unspiritual, having the nature) of the flesh—under the control of ordinary impulses. For as long as [there are] envying and jealousy and wrangling and factions among you, are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere (unchanged) men? 1 Corinthians 3:3  —AMP

Fruitful Children

John 15:7, 8

Bearing fruit is the result of abiding in God’s word.

2 Peter 1:3, 4

  • Hope fruit
  • Faith fruit
  • Patience fruit
  • Love fruit
  • Prayer fruit

Walking worthy of the Lord means bearing fruit, and bearing fruit is the result of allowing God’s word to abide in you.

Being God-inside-minded

If you do not limit the Holy Ghost, then you will be limitless.

  • 2 Corinthians 6:16-18

You begin taking on new and greater responsibility knowing that God’s ability and wisdom are yours.
