Unfair Criticism

Judgment Begets Judgment

Matthew 7:1-2

If we judge how a person ministers, we will be judged according to how we minister.

If we disagree with how a person does something, he is already in disagreement on how he would do it.

  • The standard criticism is, “That is not how *I* would do it.”

The next favored criticism is, “I do not believe it should be done that way.”

There are two things that are, for the most part, immaterial concerning ministry;

  • Who is doing the ministering.
  • HOW it is being done.

This is not without regard for proper biblical guidelines or doctrines!

Gifted by God’s Will

Romans 14:1-5

We all have gifts and grace according to the will of God.

  • I have been gifted and given grace as Richard Fry, not as you.
  • The things I do, and the ways I do them, are done as God would have me do them, not as God would have you do them.

We could all paint a house, each in our own way, and yet the house would still be painted.

  • Sprayed
  • Rolled
  • Brushed
  • Hire it done

The Body of Christ

Ephesians 4:13-16

A hip joint does not operate in the same manner a knee joint operates.

  • Yet they both offer movement to the body.

The wrist has no business criticizing the shoulder for doing things the way it does.

Looking For Fault

1 Samuel 17:20-28

Verse 20

  • David is being responsible with the sheep left in his charge.

He left them with a keeper; someone qualified to look after them.

Verse 22

  • David left his goods with those whose job it was to look after such things.

David is acting very responsibly.

Verse 28

  • David’s eldest brother, Eliab, criticizes David for having left his sheep to come down to see the battle.
  • David had not come down to see the battle—he had come down to be the battle.
  • Eliab was suggesting that David had been irresponsible with the sheep in his charge.
  • Eliab was further suggesting that David was not qualified to do anything but tend sheep.

Unbelief Spawns Criticism

Matthew 13:54-58

Not even Jesus could escape the criticism of unbelievers.
