Facts About Fire

Fire speaks of intense heat.

  • All life is based upon heat.
  • There could be no life without heat.

Fire gives off light.

Fire is both purgative and punitive.

  • It is used both to cleanse and to punish.

The result of fire is ashes.

  • Leviticus 6:10

The Fire of Judgment
Exodus 38:1-7

The Brazen Altar

There is no moral or spiritual life without God’s judgment.

  • Genesis 19:24
  • Psalm 11:6
  • Isaiah 66:15, 16

God’s judgment is the light by which we identify both his enemies and his children.

  • Psalm 119:105—Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

God’s judgment cleanses and punishes (Isaiah 6:6, 7).

  • The enemies of God, if they do not repent, must suffer his unspeakable wrath and vengeance.
  • The children of God must have all of their dross burned away.

The same fire that melts wax hardens clay.

  • BRASS

durability, strength, unyieldingness.

The ashes of judgment.

  • Isaiah 44:20
  • Psalm 102:9, 10

The Fire of Praise

The Golden Altar

There is no freshness to life without the fire of the Spirit of praise.

  • The coals from the brazen altar were used to ignite the incense at the golden altar.

Leviticus 16:12

Our praise is the light of God’s glory, and it declares God’s judgment.

  • It exposes what is unholy and what is righteous.

Our Praise cleanses and punishes.

  • We further purify both ourselves and those around us through our praise.
  • We punish those who are walking in unrighteousness by being peaceful and contented in God’s own righteousness.

Strange Fire

Fire was always burning upon the brazen altar.

The Fire at The Altar

A type of that divine holiness and righteousness which consumed the perfect sacrifice on the cross.

  • All else is strange fire.
  • Leviticus 10:1

Nadab and Abihu had dared to approach God in a manner he had not provided.

  • They had rejected the holy fire and took fire of their own kindling to offer incense.
  • The two altars must never be separated.

Psalm 84:3

  • Praise must always be based upon the sacrifice of Christ.

Running From The Fire

God’s Judgment

You have not allowed the fire of God to purge the dross from your life.

You have offered strange fire.

  • Self-condemnation
  • Self-righteousness

Praise

Have you offered strange fire?

  • Lip service
  • Singing
  • Tradition
  • Indifference
