Seven Ways to Receive Healing

There is one element to healing that must be understood from the very beginning of our discussion:

  • If a person does not want to be healed none of this information will be of any value.

This message assumes a desire for healing on the part of an individual.

God’s Will

It seems only fitting to establish God’s will with regards to healing.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.  Psalms 91:5-7, 10

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;  Psalm 103:1-3

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  Isaiah 53:4-5

When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.  Matthew 8:16-17

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.  John 10:10

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.  1 Peter 2:24

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.  3 John 1:2

It is very apparent that God’s will is for us to be healed.

Method 1: Special Anointings

These are special outpourings of the Holy Spirit for the purpose of healing.

They are special miracles of healing worked at the hands of men.

Paul

And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Acts 19:11, 12

Jesus

And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. Mark 5:25-34

These tangible anoints may be transmitted via cloths and garments, but this is not a requirement.

Method 2: Gifts of Healings

1 Corinthians 12:10, 11

This method works for sinner or saint.

It is always accompanied by an instantaneous manifestation of healing.

God uses this method to attract sinners to get them healed without any faith on their part.

  • Acts 3:1-11
  • John 5:1-9
  • Acts 9:36-43

This makes it a dinner bell for salvation.

Method 3: Anointing With Oil

James 5:13-15

This method has a number of constituent parts which I will discuss in turn.

Is

This implies that there may not be.

Any

Includes all, from the least faith to the greatest faith.

Among You

Indicates Christians only.

Elders

Mature believers who can pray the prayer of faith.

Prayer of Faith

Is still required.

Let Him Call

This will get the individuals will involved.

Reason For Oil

Two reasons:

1. Symbolic of the holy Spirit

2. Point of contact for the physical senses.

  • It assists the weak in faith receive.

Method 4: Laying on of Hands

This is the most common method employing a point of contact.

This is a fundamental Christian doctrine.

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1, 2

Not Your Hands That Heal

It is the name of Jesus that heals, not your hands, and not anointing with oil.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Mark 16:17, 18

In 11 of the 17 recorded healings done by Jesus, he declared that the healing was, “...be it unto you according to your faith.”

The sick recover—grow better—they do not get an instantaneous healing.

This is the method most often used by Jesus.

It does not work for those who do not believe.

The Healing of a Blind Man at Bethsaida

And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. Mark 8:22-25

Notice here that Jesus did not PRAY twice. He laid hands on him twice.

Method 5: Prayer of Agreement

From Matthew 18:19, 20

This is supportive method for healing involving the faith of at least two individuals.

The key is in the agreement between those involved.

Method 6: Believe When You Pray

For mature believers only; those skilled in using their own faith.

Mark 11:24

This is not accompanied by an immediate physical manifestation of healing.

  • “Believe you receive.”

It is not important how you feel, but only how you believe.

No involvement of the senses—purely faith in God’s word.

Method 7: Just Say It

This places the greatest demand on your faith.

No prayer is offered or made.

Simply confess what the word says.

  • Psalm 103:1-3
  • Matthew 8:5-13, 17
  • 1 Peter 2:24
  • Romans 4:16-22
