The Purpose of Teaching

The purpose of teaching goes far beyond the transfer of information—the true purpose of teaching is to create the potential for improvement in the life of the one being taught.

Prerequisites For Teaching

  • The teacher must know something.
  • There must be someone willing to be taught.

The Teacher

Self Preparation

Proverbs 16:23

Psalm 51:7-13

  • Make certain that your life is clean before God.

How to Deliver Your Message

Do not try to show how much you know.

  • You will appear arrogant
  • Pride of learning

Where gaining the information is of more value than the application of it.

Do not point out what they do not know.

  • You will appear arrogant.
  • The student will feel inferior.

The hearer is threatened.

Simply tell what God has revealed to you.

  • You need to know the information as much as they do.
  • Never feel that you will loose credibility because you are human.

It is often good to display your humanity so your hearers will not feel quite so threatened.

Be merciful

  • 1 Kings 8:35-36

The Benefits of Teaching

Romans 2:21a

  • You learn.

Deuteronomy 5:31

  • You get closer to God.

The Student

Deuteronomy 4:1; 28:13

  • God always expects those who hear to respond by doing.

You should have the same expectation.
