CHAPTER 18

V. 2

Describes an actual city: habitation, hold, cage.

Isaiah 13:9-22 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land. Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished. Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children. And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

Zechariah 5:5-11 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth. And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah. And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah? And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

STORK is an unclean bird.

EPHAH = single world monetary unit.

EVIL WOMEN = false religion.

SHINAR = The land of shinar is the Old Testament name for the Alluvial Plain between the Tigris and the
Euphrates, commonly known as Babylonia in ancient times (Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia p. 1578).

V. 4-8

Verse 4 is proof that people will be saved during the tribulation period.

Leviticus 20:10, 16 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

V. 9-10

In Revelation 17:16 we saw the kings of the earth destroy Mystery Babylon, but here, in chapter 18, we find them mourning and weeping, lamenting the loss they have suffered.

1. Apparently men can live without religion, but the loss of wealth and power becomes another matter entirely.

V. 11-19

THE END: This marks the beginning of the end of humanity as we know it.

V. 20

Heaven begins a glorious celebration as God exacts vengeance for his martyred prophets and apostles.

V. 21

Luke 17:1-2 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offenses will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

1.Babylon has offended the children of God.

CHAPTER 19

V. 1-6

The word Alleluia is found only four times in all of scripture: here in verses 1-6; and then only after the judgments of the tribulation period are completed.

V. 7

The custom of the day was for the newly wedded couple, along with attendants and guests, to form a procession from:

1. The place of the marriage ceremony to
2. The place of the celebration of the marriage feast.

THEREFORE: we go from Heaven (the marriage) v. 1, 7-8, to earth (the wedding feast)

Revelation 21:2.

As to the identity of the bride; there are four major theories:

1. Old Testament saints of Israel.
2. National (earthly) Israel.
3. The Church of the dispensation of Grace.
4. The redeemed of all ages.

Everyone must agree on the position taken by scripture, i.e., the bride is the New Jerusalem:

Revelation 21:2.

V. 8

The wedding gown of the bride is the righteousness of the saints.

1.Whoever lives in the city is a part of the bride.

V. 11-21

ARMAGEDDON

STAGE 7

THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON

V. 11

The white horse symbolizes victory.

Heaven opens; Jesus leaves the right hand of the Father.

1.Revelation 1:7 is fulfilled.

This begins the final stages of the tribulation period.

V. 12

Judges 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is
secret?

V. 13

Only he knows his name, but his nickname is The Word of God.

Job 25:6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

Psalm 22:6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

1.Isaiah 34:5-6

Idumea = Edom

V. 13-15

Isaiah 63:2-3 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? 3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

V. 15

Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

TWO RIDERS

V. 11-16

Compare with Revelation 6:2

V. 17-19

Megiddo is only the center of the battle of: Revelation 14:20 shows us the battle will extend over a 200 mile area.

V. 20-21

The beast (antichrist) and the false prophet are the only two men (unsaved) who are not judged at the Great White
Throne judgment.

1. Obviously God has already made a predetermined judgment on them.

This suggests the possibility that Antichrist was alive on earth before, and has made his second coming
under judgment (he is a counterfeit Christ).
