CHAPTERS 10 & 11
(a parenthetical insertion from 10:1 - 11:14)

V. 1
The angel is Jesus.

V. 4

Daniel 8:26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

  1. KNOWLEDGE = WICKEDNESS, CALAMITY

V. 9a
The book again!

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

Hebrews 5:13-14 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

V. 9b-10
Sweetness = Assurance that Jesus is possessing his kingdom.

Ezekiel 3:1-4 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.

V. 11
The judgments are bitterness.

Ezekiel 3:14, 18 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me. When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

CHAPTER 11
(parenthetical insertion continued from chapter 10)

V. 1
The temple is measured during the first half of the tribulation. We know it is measured in the first half from Daniel 9:27.

Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

A temple must be rebuilt for this to be fulfilled, but in Hebrews chapters 6 & 9 Paul points out that Jesus is our High Priest; only the High Priest may officiate the atonement sacrifices and take the blood into the Holy of Holies.

  1. Everything about the temple and Old Testament worship is going to pass under the rod of judgment.
  2. Israel will most likely be judged for rebuilding the temple without the presence of Jesus Christ and his blessing.

TEMPLE: Literally - the Holy place. Every mention in the New Testament of the structure for sacrifice worship is Holy Place. Therefore, the Temple proper need not be rebuilt.

V. 2
The outer court is the sight of the Dome of the Rock.

V. 3
Two is the number of witnesses required to convict someone of a crime.

V. 4-10
One of the two witnesses is definitely the Old Testament prophet Elijah. Elijah did not die; he was translated (cf. 2 Kings 2:11). Scripture says in Hebrews 9:27 that it is appointed unto men once to die. Moses has died (cf. Deuteronomy 32:49-50; 34:7). The other witness has to be Enoch who also did not die, but was translated (cf. Genesis 5:24).

V. 12
Rapture #2. It takes place in the middle of the tribulation period. Clearly, only the two witnesses are being raptured.

V. 13
These are very important men. Seven thousand is a specific number of men as seen from the interlinear translation of the Bible.

And in that hour there was earthquake a great, and the tenth of the city fell, and there were killed in the earthquake names of men thousand seven. And the rest afraid became, and gave glory to the God of the heaven.

Giving God glory does not mean they will worship him, but they will admit the earthquake is God's judgment.

V. 19
It is difficult to understand all of the discussion about the current location of the ark of the covenant. It is in God's temple in heaven. This should be an end to the yammering.
