The Book of Daniel Introduction The book of Daniel was written, it is commonly supposed, between 167 and 164 B.C., while Israel was under the tyrannical persecution of Antiochus Epiphanes, and before the Maccabean revolution. The book is rather neatly divided into two sections; the first six chapters being an accounting of the trials and perils in the life of Daniel while in the service of Nebuchadnezzar. The last six chapters The purpose of the book seems to have been to sustain the faith and hope of the Jews during their persecutions through the demonstrated triumphs of Daniel over his own difficulties. Along with this intent to sustain the faith of the Jews was the added consideration of the wrath of God being appeased; and the kingdom of the saints would being under the "Son of Man" whose reign would last forever. |
